So here you go!

David preached this weekend on the story of Martha and Mary and compared how they celebrated the coming of Jesus with how we celebrate it. It was good stuff. Here’s a little something I wrote to go along with the sermon.
‘Twas the night before the Christmas party, when all through the room
Everyone was working, I with my broom;
The decorations were all up, the twinkling lights;
The children had been warned and were avoiding all fights.
The evening ended and everyone went to bed,
I stayed up till 4 reviewing the meal in my head.
The next morning arrived and the cleaning resumed,
The guests were set to arrive exactly at noon.
Everything was going as planned; not even a hitch,
My sister showed up, but she didn’t give a rip!
I made the bread and I cooked the roast,
But just then I heard the sound that I feared most;
The doorbell rang, but it was only ten!
Didn’t matter; the guest of honor was there and his whole group of men.
I ran to the window and my fears were confirmed
Then my sister moseyed up and said “Is that guy’s hair permed?”
How could she be so calm at a time such as this?
Then she went out the door and greeted them all with a kiss.
I ran to the kitchen, there wasn’t a second to waste;
Would the pies get done and how would they taste?
Then I went to the door and while I greeted the guests,
I asked my sister to check the rolls, but she could’ve cared less.
The guest of honor was kind and introduced all the people,
I smiled and shook hands and tried to be gleeful.
There was Tommy and Timmy and Bobby and John,
Larry and Jack and Jimmy and Don.
They were all lovely men; each and every one,
But I had to get back to work and see that everything got done.
The guest of honor sat by the fire and everyone gathered ‘round,
My sister followed suit and plopped down on the ground.
And that’s where she stayed for the first…then second hour,
I hurried and rushed and grew increasingly sour.
Finally everyone got up and I saw my chance,
I approached the guest of honor and I presented my stance.
Surely you’ve noticed everything I’ve done,
While my sister just sits there and has all the fun.
She’s been sitting at your feet listening to you all day,
You have to make her help me, isn’t there something you can say?
He put his hand on my shoulder, looked at me and smiled,
Why are you so troubled and anxious my child?
There are many things to do, but your sister’s chosen what’s best,
Come and sit with her at my feet and enjoy your guests.
Maybe he was right; maybe I’d missed the real meaning.
Maybe it wasn’t about cooking, or baking or cleaning.
So I threw off my apron and laughed with delight,
I joined my sister on the floor and thought this…is a good night!
I hope everyone has a wonderful time celebrating the coming of our Savior! What an unbelievable gift God has given us.
